Modules:

Base Module

The application allows to:

  • refer files of different formats such as dwg, orthophotos, shp, kml, files from survey made with laser scanner or traditional topography (to build the digital terrain model - DTM) or GPS trackings, furthermore a specific interface allows to detect quickly and easily all the objects and to manage their displaying in an optimal way;
  • read xml formats from surveys with high-performance vehicles (MMS - Mobile Mapping System);
  • overlay the project with online mapping (Google, Bing, OpenStreetMap, etc.);
  • vectorize or survey axes, mile-stones and house numbers so that all elements related to road infrastructure are linked by a kilometric progressive, by the distance from the reference milestone or associated with an house number (in urban areas);
  • prepare summary tables with priority interventions and their budget.
     

Module for document management

The module allows the user during the operations in the site to real time display, between the large amount of documents, only those related to a specific area identified by the integrated GPS. The module provides the possibility to select the documents stored in the project according to specific filters set up by the user itself on the base of his needs. In particular, subdividing a major project into sub-areas, called “Contours” in the software, it will be possible to connect all the useful documents.

Management of Taxation

Module for advertising installations

The management of advertising billboards allows to associate information in order to obtain as output the value of taxation, with any possible specifications about the expiry of the contract, the number of renewals made, etc.. The methods of taxation present in the software PKmaps refer to the Italian national legislation (D.L. n° 507 of 15th November 1993, and subsequent amendments) and to the ANAS technical specifications (based on D.L. n° 285 of 30th April 1992). This module can be useful both to public administrations, for a correct management of the billboards, and to specialized companies of this sector.

Module for taxable surfaces

Similarly to what was done in the module of advertising billboards, we are able to associate areal, linear or punctual elements the information for the identification of surfaces, whether they are access, occupation of public land, terraces, etc.. The methods of taxation always make reference to the Italian national legislation and allow a periodic control on the basis of the reference name, the square meters of surface to be taxed and the amount to be paid.

The objects managed through this module are the guard rails, the traffic control systems, the street lighting, the green spaces, etc.. In particular, the module concerning guard rails arose from the need to know their state of fact in order to improve road safety; it was necessary to create a method for calculating the priority of interventions based on the state of fact of the elements and the road conditions (Ro.Sa.Ma.S. Project - Provincia di Pisa, Servizio Viabilità). This method, together with the possibility to import into the software the related price list, allows to obtain easily and immediately an estimation of costs to be incurred for priority interventions.

This module is used to manage the vertical and horizontal signs, traffic light systems and variable message boards.

This module allows, in function of the type of surface present along the road infrastructure (concrete, asphalt, cobblestone and ground), to visually find the type of degradation and to subsequently evaluate the intervention priorities. The priority can be calculated using various methods such as the one of PCI (American Regulation D6433-11).

Module for civil engineering works

The module includes a wide variety of works among which bridges, overpasses, tunnels, ditches, hydraulic structures, etc. In particular, the module for bridges allows evaluating the state of fact of the work using a visual method that takes into account each individual element of the structure, the strategic importance of the work, the importance of the road network and the actual state of degradation of the work.

Module for management of accidents

The module for management of accidents is the tool to store, analyze and display all traffic accidents of a specific area. The presence of the main compilation fields for the description of an accident, following the structure of ISTAT, together with road conditions determined by the other modules of the software, are essential for the localization of the dangerous areas (black points) existing on the road infrastructure. It is possible to import some file formats from regional database, in particular can be uploaded files from the MITRIS System (Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia) and from the SIRSS Project (Region of Tuscany). The implementation for other formats is always possible.

Output

There are specific outputs for each module (in Word or Excel format) which allow obtaining a list of the deteriorated elements in function of the priorities of intervention. It is possible to enter in PKmaps pricing information, thus obtaining a costs estimation and allowing an immediate evaluation of expense necessary for repair, replacement or construction of all the objects. The possible outputs are in pdf, dwg and kml formats, in particular the last one is used for an online display of information.

The software PKmaps has been developed to be used on tablet-PC with GPS and GPRS, for an instantaneous geolocation.

Genie:

The realization of a shared database between all users related to Public Administration was from the beginning of the project, the main objective. In order to allow the display of data of Road Cadastre, the centralized storage of information, the possibility to update the collected data and therefore the use them, with the condition of having the appropriate permissions. All this has been achieved with a PostgreSQL database, to make possible the visualization of data on the web (through the mapping of Google Earth, OpenStreetMap, etc.) and to use these data in a GIS tool (such as Quantum GIS).

The advantages of promoting this project are the following:

  • The empowerment of local administrators in the maintenance of data;
  • The limitation of costs;
  • The centralization of IT services, which translates into:
    • the reduction of Hardware / Software infrastructures and of specialists in their use in every administration
    • each new update (at the request of one of the users) is immediately available for all
    • the homogeneous availability of data and the possibility for various administrations, national institutions (for example Ministry) or other users (for example citizens) to compare them directly with theirs.
